Forensic Nexus Q/A Sessions with a Forensic DNA Consultant.

on

Forensic Nexus would like to introduce you to Mr. Mehul Anjaria, MS, F-ABC, who is founder and chief consultant of MBA DNA Consulting LLC in Beverly Hills, California.

Mr. Anjaria kindly agreed to being interviewed by Forensic Nexus to share his career path. We asked him the following questions:

What is your area of expertise/forensic discipline?

Forensic DNA Consulting. Current expertise in DNA analysis and laboratory accreditation. Past qualification in controlled substances analysis and clandestine drug laboratory investigation.

Where do you work as a Forensic Scientist?

I currently run my own DNA consulting firm-MBA DNA Consulting, LLC. Previously I worked in government crime labs and co-founded a private forensic DNA lab.

What is your typical work day like?

Highly varied-which I enjoy. It may involve visiting an inmate at a jail, testifying in court, observing DNA testing, meeting with an attorney, or reviewing records of DNA testing.

What inspired you to pursue this career?

I did not want to be confined to a laboratory. The appeal for me was that there was the opportunity to go to crime scenes and to testify in court.

What is your academic background?

BS-Biochemistry, MS-Criminalistics

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Exploring the intersection of the legal and scientific worlds.

What suggestions do you have for students that are interested in your profession?

First of all, know what ‘forensics’ is. While the media’s portrayal of the profession draws people to it, they are often surprised to hear how things work in real life. Understand that this is truly a career and not a ‘job’. The stakes are high in the work that is performed.

Have we covered all bases? Any further questions come to mind while reading Mr. Anjaria’s story? Please feel free to submit questions by commenting on this post and we will direct them to Mr. Anjaria and post his responses.

Forensic Nexus would like to thank Mr. Anjaria for his participation. He has also agreed to offer mentorship to individuals seeking career advisement.
